| When I have to dry lot cows, I use three feeders. Big bale feeders, wood bunks, and tires. 20.8 X 38 make a big feeder. I like to feed big bales that are good enough they will eat EVERYTHING. Saves grinding cost, and keeps their belly full. Mixing hay, stalks, straw or whatever, and by-product gets a cheaper energy and protein in them. The feed bunks work good to get their attention, and stop them trying to crawl in the feed wagon. If your feed wagon does not dump fast, they will crowd against it HARD. Then the tires work good for getting volume out to them. I've got some smaller tires, maybe bias ply's, maybe 16.9 X 34s. Cows will crawl in them, flatten them down. They are ok, but the 20.8s are better, IMHO. | |
