I have an electric burner.The younger the better.I check heat by burning a board.If it makes a black ring immediatly its ready.I hold the preheated iron on for 10 seconds for younger calves and 20 seconds for 3to 4 month old calves.Thes are jersey calves.Look for a copper ring around the horn then stop.
