Had the same problem on my 4400. If yours is like mine, take the cummunicator off the end of the counter shaft. Put it in a vice so you can spin it with a cordless drill. Connect the leads of your ohm meter where the hot wire connects and where it comes out to go to the coil. You should have continuity. Spin it with a cordless drill to see if you loose continuity. Theres a small brush inside that could be bad or not maintaining spring tension. Good luck.
