Last year a neighbor and I rented a bull for $600 (total) for 2 months. I don't think rental is related to the number of cows the bull services. It just cost so much for the owner to keep a bull year round and he only has a limited period he can rent one out. Most folks in the north don't want a bull in the late fall or winter. You also want to make sure he has all shots and doesn't pick up a disease and bring it back to your herd or spread it to others.
