ED - Yes it was a "red" flexicoil rig.

I was very surprised by the setup and totally agree with your comments about the hyd. setup and efficiency.

The rig got very complicated as we concerted the metering roll control over to be run with an Insight. On this rig they used what I refer to as an addon power steering valve to "set the pace" for the metering rolls. The electronics turn the input shaft at the desired speed and the hydraulics actually do the "work" of turning the rolls. The Ag Leader module didn't couldn't handle the electrical load of running the pace motors so inline drivers were needed to handle the load. The PWM output of each channel ran to the inline driver which in turn ran the pace electric motor at the correct RPM. The hydraulics attempted to turn the metering rolls at this same pace.

I wasn't around to see it in use but I guess it worked OK from that standpoint. I believe the major problem was in getting the NH3 to seal since it was delivered to the same shanks that were applying the dry fertilizer.
