Little River, TX | In the late 1970's I was strongly considering going into crop dusting after I got of the AF. I still had enough GI bill money to pay for the training.
I did a lot of airport hopping talking to talking to Ag Pilots. One 65 year old pilot, near Hillsboro, TX advised strongly against flying under power or phone lines. His attitude was he had attended too many funerals for pilots that did fly under power lines on a regular basis.
The few times he would have walked under the power lines a day before flying the field. His idea was the power lines are easy to avoid. Not so easy to avoid is a single phone line strung under the power wires. That and many times there are brace cables designed to keep the poles standing.
He also had a few gems about flying with the wheels touching the crop.
In 1980 I sold my C-150 and bought hay equipment. | |
