What is your crop rotation? We farm some of the same type of soils just north of you (20 miles north of the Kansas Nebraska border on Hwy 4 and 281) and our soils are getting more mellow every year. You can really tell the difference between some of our newly rented ground that has only been notilled for a couple of years and the fields that have been notilled for 10 to 15 years. We think one of the reasons is a diverse crop rotation. It also helps reduce pests, diseases and weed populations. We plant corn, milo, soybeans, and wheat, both dryland and irrigated. We are also adding proso and german millet as a double crop behind dryland wheat, and are trying some covercrops, for grazing and adding nitrogen to the soil. Also helps feed all of the soil microbes. Sorry to hear about your struggles with notill.
