Grand Rapids, MI
mcfarm,

There is no upper limit on how many acres can be insured, nor do I personally think there should be. How much is too much anyway? 500 acres? 1000 acres? 5000 acres? 20000 acres? you see the problem.

Prevented planting pays 60% of the guarantee on MPCI, RA, and CRC policies, subject to certain limits on crops given historical planting patterns. Now insureds are required to have the proper equipment to timely plant this acreage or the claim can be denied. This is a pretty subjective thing though. My general rule of thumb for planting capacity for the midwest is 1 foot of planting capacity per 100 acres, so for 15,000 acres 150' should be sufficient. This is a rule of thumb and will of course vary with location, soil types, etc.
