Dix (Boyd), IL | I have a neighbor with a shallow 2 acre pond with a lot of vegetation and big catfish, bass, and crappie in it. The pond catches run off water from maybe 8 acres of my adjacent field of corn. There might be 30 yards between the border of the corn and the inlet of the pond. I sprayed aatrex, degree extra, and warrior at typical label rates on 6-3. We have had nice showers about every week since planting/spraying. Now over the weekend the neighbor has discovered a lot of dead fish, maybe 100, and mostly the bigger catfish (over 4 pounds). He thinks our chemicals have runnoff in the pond and caused this since there is a brown scum on the surface of the water. I'm thinking the water may be "turning over" and the bigger fish can't get enough oxygen. Trying to "do the right thing" we have taken a couple fish to the local animal disease control lab and a couple of water samples to another lab.
Any experience with this kind of situation?
Any thoughts? | |
