Subject: RE: Very dumb poultry question

SE Minnesota
We have some two-story turkey quonset barns around here still. The upper level is cleaned using a 400 series (440 gas) bobcat skidloader. We called the "minibobs" The floors have been reinforced with an exra layer of 3/4 inch plywood. The Bobcat is raised to the second floor end door in a scissor lift flat bed truck. These barns are only brooder barns meaning they only hold turkeys to 4 weeks old.

There are "trap dooors" in the floor for pushing the litter down during cleanout. The same holes are also fitted with ramps and then the birds are pushed down the ramps during loadout.

2 story barns are probably more effiecient users of heat, but it was alwoys hard to control litter conditions on the second floor.
