SW Ohio | I just happen to have a pic of one of mine, we call em flood gates here, most streams(creek=crik) have a pronounced valley but a few are very shallow broad flows, all go from no flow dry to raging torrents depending on rainfall and how many piles of tree trimmings the upstream idiots have put in the creek. This is my biggest stream, normal average is small enough to walk across on the stones but have seen it ten feet deep and twenty feet wide going thirty miles an hour. The end posts are 4 inch pipe set ten feet into the ground with welded braces and a 1 inch cable tied across, one end is held fast and the other has a 1/4 chain to let go when it needs to(saves having to rebuild after a flood.
