Strathcona, mn | Back in the day I worked for an erosion control contractor and installed hundreds of thousand square yards of erosion mats. Straw or wood fiber will hold the same. Cat 1 blanket has netting on one side, cat 2 has netting on two sides, cat 3 is reinforced netting, I believe catv4 is straw and coconut fiber reinforced mat and so on... I wouldn't put anything less than cat 2 blanket in. I would highly recommend putting in "ditch checks" with either staked in straw bales or "straw waddles". The ditch checks are installed perpendicular to the ditch and will slow the velocity down before the water can do damage. Also when installing the mat trench in the leading edge bad bury it, that'll keep the mat from pulling out and washing down hill. I hope I never have to install any more erosion mat. I'll never forget the days we installed whole semi loads. We once installed mat on an entire golf course we seeded, all 16 fairways and roughs. That was a long summer bad many semi loads of mat. | |
