I use pond snails, they keep the tank clean all summer..
I had the 500 gallon stock tank in the yard suddenly infested with red algae, worse than I have ever seen it.
Some years ago I got a small bottle of copper sulfate powder from the TSC store to kill algae in the spray water tanks, never used it after putting the tanks in a box van.
I sprinkled a guesstimated 3 table spoons of it in the tank, then did a google search to see what the proper dose should be, it said 1/8 teaspoon per 100 gallons, I was way over treated LOL.
By the next morning, the algae was all dead and settled to the bottom of the tank, I pumped the tank empty and refilled to get rid of the overdose of copper sulfate.
Not sure how fast a standard dose would work, but mu 8 X overdose was like fishing with dynamite. The site said that the CORRECT dosage of copper sulfate would hurt small pond critters, nothing said about cattle.
