![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=72&type=profile&rnd=89) Little River, TX | Thank you Seth, that looks so much better.
I am not at all disciplined or comfortable with math.
Bermudagrass hay will contain roughly the same N, P, K, & Mg as alfalfa, but roughly a third of the calcium.
It is my theory that fertility removed by haying will eventually have to be replaced. Here there is not a problem with calcium as our soil has the equivalent of 150 tons/A of Ag Lime to the acre. That's the definition of a calcareous soil.
I did not have a proposed price for the local magnesium source, Sulfate of Potassium and Magnesium, (K-Mag 0-0-22-11-22). Plus that would just make the computations even more complicated, for me.
I am gong to consider my fertilizer cost at $45.
*************************************************
For ease of figuring I use the rule of thumb of 20 each 55 lb square bales per round bale. At 22 small bales to a RB that still comes to roughly $2/bale just for fertilizer. Here a square bale of grass hay is selling for $5 to $7 bale. RB's are selling for $20 to $100 depending on many factors.
