Here are a couple of thoughts. Temperature fluctuations is the largest obstacle so try to keep it somewhat constant. Also, the formula for good storage is temp plus humidity = 100 (or close to 100) e.g. 50 degrees and 50% humidity which can be hard to obtain without a storage facility. Having said that, what I would do is find out what the cold germ is and make my decision from there. 90% or higher cold germ should carry over very well. Especially in a basement with a dehumidifier.
