I am a believer in early planting with your planter setup Paul. It has worked well for me and others. All that residue acts as insulation in heat and cold. 2005 we had 4 inches of ice and snow on it about this time but it made 180. Pretty well wiped out the sweet corn though. We had 8 inches of rain that summer.

Just keep practicing and experimenting and finetuning your system, the tools are there. I don't want to farm like my neighbors do, I want to do it the way I believe in. If you have all the nutrients available you have a healthier crop and you won't believe what it will live through.

But this heating bill has been huge! Winter wouldn't give up, next thing you know it will be here again. Golly, I hope we have a long fall!
