I use black plastic. Cut the plastic off square and slightly longer than the original clay. Put one end in and use a flat surface like a planter disk opener to use like a shoe horn to slide the other end in. Then take about a 6 inch piece of plastic tile cut in half and place over the ends to be used as top caps. I tile part time in the spring and fall works everytime.
