Subject: RE: Best way to repair old clay

Central, IL
Take out a few extra clay tiles and save them for bats. Cut a peice of plastic a couple of ribs longer. Fit it between the existing clay to where it fits snug. Then take the broken pieces of clay tile (bats) and lay over those joints on the sides and top. There is an art to this so the first time you wont get it very good, it just takes practice. When you break a bat with another one try to use the factory edge to hit it with. Should break in a straight line but not always. When you lay the bats in try to put the pieces together the way they came apart. I worked out of high school for a tile contractor and this was the way he tought me how to do it. Very rare to go back and fix it again if done properly. No need for shingles or sackrete. This is how the old timers made there turns and joints when the clay would not match up right. Have fun.
