They can grow bermudagrass in Tenn. In my opinion bermudagrass beats timothy hands down and orchardgrass orchard grass is not all it is cracked up to be.
Though they are ok where a good bermudagrass is not an option.

Also remember 12% CP means 50 lbs nitrogen per ton, and 8% still uses 40 lbs of nitrogen per ton of hay.

As long as things are going well hay will pay better than row most crops.

At least an accumulator behind the baler and a grab on a front loader is a good idea for small bales. If he has a good barn a bale wagon is a better option.

Hay can be a one man show, with equipment.
