tennessee | I have been thinking of getting in the hay business after 20 years of not having any on this farm. My row crop ground is being sold or landlords/owners are sowing down for hay or cattle. I own 120 ac. that I could grow hay on and sell. My question is--is there any money to be made doing this? There's alot of cattle and horses around here, I don't think there would be a problem selling the hay. I was thinking timothy/orchard grass and square baling (small bales) maybe half and rolling the other half. I know there are alot of variables to this, but just in general how would this compare with a corn/bean rotation net profit wise--not gross. Any and all thoughts appreciated. By the way I'm not looking to make my total living off of this I work full time at another job. I think it would kinda be nice to just work my ground and not have to worry about pleasing any landlords........ | |
