If the alfalfa is beat up to the point that this cutting is shot, then there will be new shoots forming at the crown and these will mature to a harvestable hay.
At the same time the few surviving shoots will bloom and produce seed.
Enter a bale of that hay in a hay contest and drive the judges nuts, trying to figure out where the seed pods came from!
