I'm going to roll after emergence to eliminate the possibility of crusting. Rolling leaves a very thin layer of dust on the surface, a heavy rain can turn it into a crust in short order and contribute to emergence problems. I'm going to let the crop emerge under the best conditions, then roll.
Plus the fact that I just bought a roller and it hasn't arrived yet !!
