Subject: RE: How many varieties do you plant

Eastern Ontario
Planted 8 "families" of corn, but with the rr and bt and hxx deviants it amounted to 15 different varieties of corn over 550a. Why? Each farm seems to have it's own maturity, black sand in hollows surrounded by 5' sand hills doesn't mature as fast as even loam fields. Each farm got 2-3 varieties to spread out risk. Top yeilding hybrid for 3yrs running had a bad year a while back and didn't mature on any ground, was glad there was only 100a of it. Every year is different, so the racehorse one year breaks a leg the next. But why do you have to clean out boxes? I just dump the next one in when there's less than a half unit of the old one left in the 6 cans.....unless doing a plot of course.....
