Here in west TX, you can get a nice lawn going by plowing a patch of bare dirt and then watering it but good. In a couple of days, you'll see blades of bermudagrass emerge, and before the month is out, it'll be a gorgeous, lush lawn. At least, that's what happens in cotton fields around here. Pour the chemicals on, it'll laugh and preen and grow another 6". Plow it up, and the clods will sprout green fuzz, and you'll not only have grass, but cloddy grass as well. The only way to kill it is to put a swingset and playground slide on it and let the kids loose.
