There are two of those Orthman setups around here. The guys have been using them for over 10 years, so they must be O.K. The main issue with them is getting the fertilizer openers set right in relation to the planter openers. If anything get's to moving you can have fertilizer too close to the seed, or interfereing with the seed openers. We run a CaseIH planter with kinze heavy duty no-till fert openers,and dawn trashwheels for row cleaning. The problem is that you have a TON of weight on the planter, and a lot of folding planters simply don't have room for all the stuff that is required, nor the carrying capacity. I'm wanting to reengineer our rig for next season, but don't know for sure that it will get done. Need more fertilizer capacity, plus the ability to put more product on.
