Subject: Fall N

I know what the problems are with banning fall applications. The thing is that the people who write the laws don't care what the problems are, they want it changed no matter what it cost.

I hope I'm wrong on this but I'm not as optimistic as Tom that it won't happen. Stupid still amazes me but it rarely surprises me anymore.

As for fall manure vs spring manure, a couple yrs ago we did some yield checks. Spring manure beat the fall manure by over 10 bu even with the stand on the spring application being thinner and uneven.
This was not a scientific test but my conclusion was that the fall application had lost a considerable amount of N during the time before the spring application was done. This was during a spring that warmed up early and had large amounts of rain.
