Camrose, Alberta | In 2006 we made the mistake of not noticing our openers where worn behind the tractor tires. The result was those openers seeded shallower than the rest. It was exagerrated in the sandy spots where the ground is even harder and all the openers go in shallower. In these sandy spots some of the seed germinated then ran out of moisture and died, some of the seed needed a good rain and emerged two weeks after the rest of the field. Needless to say we had stipes all year in the tractor tracks from the late emerged seed. Most of the field you could not see the stripes and the grain drier fixed those stripes that where later. | |
