Looks like slug and mouse heaven.
But things are probably different where you are, around here you wouldn't grow four foot rye to save moisture.
With forages so high, didn't you cost yourself a lot of income for hay by using that for mulch instead of forage? You could have still had a pretty good mulch and taken a lot of hay from 4 foot rye.
