 You can't get a  pic ?

It sounds very much like  Vegetable Weevil, or Mandalotus Weevil, apart from the red colouring.

But anything that looks like a weevil will.....  well...  will look like a weevil I guess....

 

We have  problems in Canola with the Mandalotus.   About the only cure  we've found is a double rate of Fipronil as a seed coating.   You can take them out with post emerge applications  of something like Talstar, but its difficult, and is something of a scorched earth  policy.. It takes everything, good  & bad,  which is not a  good system.

They are active at night mostly, Often very hard to find during the day.
