Nebraska Panhandle | Just got a call from person from a small town of 400 people. City has a settling pond for a sewer that hasn't been pumped out for 50 years. They are going to get it dredged out and are looking for a place to put the so called free fertilizer. A company will come in and inject the liquid mix into your farmground for free. They need at least 100 acres farmground to apply it to. There is no industry in this town so their should be no manufacturing pollutents from that source. Is this worth looking into with the price of fertilizer or should I run from it? I am concerned about the effects of pollution down the road. Purhaps 20 years down the road land that had sewer sludge applied will be deemed worthless. That type of thing. What are your thoughts? I am having second thoughts about getting involved in this. This would be applied to wheatland. Only crop grown on it in future years would be wheat. Thanks for your comments. | |
