SCMN | Hayboy, I didn't mean to sound rude, I was not offended by you asking I just find that everyone always wants to know. Even my friends who farm often ask, "Hey, I heard you rented so and so's farm, you must be up to X,XXX acres now?" I know that has always bothered my dad too. I didn't think you were out for bragging rights. I too find it interesting to learn the size of operations in different areas.
Around me we have a few 15,000 to 20,000 BTO's that need a lesson in ethics and common courtesy. There are a handful of 3,000 to 5,000 with the majority being anywhere from 1,000 or less to 2,000. There are still plenty of smaller operations too, a couple hundred acres, mostly old timers who do it because they love farming and have done it all their life. 99% of this is corn/soybean rotation. | |
