Rivers, MB | Always enjoy your posts jim and always learn something as well. I suspect that the depth control shouldn't be too hard. Our soil is fairly mellow because it has been zero-tilled/minimum tilled for many years with lots of good earthworm activity.
Our climate would be similar to Minot although I suspect we get a little more precipitation and a little less heat.
I realize that the planter we're using is very old. It's the only planter availble to me though. Thought it would be better using this than using our air drill. Mostly interested in just seeing how corn will respond to our growing climate. Yield will be of interest but will not be the deciding factor whether to continue the experiment next year. Do you think that in an area such as ours, that going to the narrower row spacing (20-22"), not tilling between the rows and using a RR corn for weed manangement would have an advantage over the wider row spacing. I'm not planning on cultivating in the rows this year. | |
