You do get what you pay for. That is one thing that holds true pretty much through all of life. Another way to put it is, you get out of it what you put in, etc., etc. My boss's dad is a cheap tightwad. He goes to the store to buy some canned veggies, and sees the lowest price beans on sale even more, so he buys the limit the sale allows. He gets home, opens a can and sees there is more water in the can than beans and the beans are either too imature or way over ripe. So now he comes out to the shop and biches and moans about how the companies are screwing the consumer, yada, yada, etc., etc.

If you have to rely on seasonal help, you're at the mercy of what comes to the office. But if you rely on, or rather, require full time help, the best way to loose the best man is to "shop" his wage. If a man can increase the efficiency and profitability of the farm while reducing risk and input costs,....................? What's that worth?
