Subject: Dryland beans in SW Red Willow.

Rawlins County Kansas
Are there a lot of dryland beans in your area? How are they managed? We are really starting to think about putting some in in 2009 (probably on corn or milo ground). With the exception of irrigated we just don't have a lot to look at other than a handful of test plots in our area.

Corn planting has been really slow this year. With such good wheat stubble from 2007 the ground is not drying out (just squishy mud) and hovers around 47 F. Yesterday I planted a field where I ran at 15+ % slip the whole time with a MFWD tractor.

Not allowed to plant on Mothers day no matter how ideal the day is. The pain incurred by wife, mom and grandma would last much longer than planting season! :)

Good luck,

Diet
