![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=72&type=profile&rnd=89) Little River, TX | Alfalfa Credits, have never been satisfactorily measured simple because there are way too many variables. Big reason is much of the nitrogen is still in an organic form. A good rule of thumb is good stand of alfalfa will supply 200 lbs/N/A and one fourth (¼ or 25%) will be available the for the new crop. Then 25% of the residual will be available each of the succeeding years. I believe that rule of thumb should apply for you, as it was developed by one of the Corn Belt States. Here where we have evaporation and transportation all winter and organic matter brakes down all winter here it probably is a little larger and a little faster. Old alfalfa field is much like poultry litter and hog scat, there is more benefit than we see in the numbers.
We can observe a correlation, but it does not prove causation.
Meaning there are benefits that we can not or have not measured!
If I only knew 10% of what I should I would know 10 times more than I do.
