Subject: RE: JD 4720 rate controller problems

East Central Alberta

Hi Scott . The first pass of the day is very important,as it records A,C,D numbers(for rate controlling) off of the first pass. Try to make the first pass at a steady speed ,similar to what you want to spray. Also turn off swathpro for the first pass.  Or you can go to manual , and use a speed and pressure close to what you think you will use during the day.(for the first pass only)

Or see if you can choose "manual" boom charge instead of automatic. If you can, you have the newer software which should be better. If you can not choose "manual" boom charge, your sprayer has older software and should be updated. The newer software sets A,C,D numbers periodically.

response can be either 3 or 4

Hi lo valve closed.

boom pressure relief can be on

If you use manual boom charge, suggest setting the manual rate knob pressure similar to what pressure you are spraying at (say 70)

minimum spray at 25 to 30

spray off pressue at (40 to 50)

With the old software, spray flow was measured by the flow meter above 13 gal/min and by a pressure calculation below 13 gal/min. Hence the rate trouble whenever you hover around the 13 gal/min flow rate. (which is 4.5-5 gal/ac spraying speed for most farmers)

Not completely sure how the newer software calculated  or measured the flow rate but it worked much better for us when spraying at lower rates.

Sorry for being long winded but I hope this helped a little.

ps.  if you have a jumpy rate, shut the machine off and try and make a good clean first pass.
