Subject: Re: Martin spading wheels

Eddie, I have not seen a closing system performance difference between installing the spiked closing wheels in the front two holes or the back two holes. But some industry specialists suggest the front two holes to allow the wheels to stay centered over the row better.

Regarding the angle of the closing wheel arm, I am referring to the front to back angle not side-to-side. The closing wheel arm assembly should be parallel with the ground (when viewed from the side) to achieve maximum gathering and closing performance. I see many producers planting corn with their closing wheel arm assemblies down. This setting compromises closing action, especially when planting into higher moisture soils.
