Subject: Some quick checks

Pittsburg, Kansas

I agree. If it is an older unit or been sitting on the shelf for a while it might not have the current software which it needs.

If it is a brand new S2 out of the box that has current software (you can check and see what version of software it is running) then my next thing to check is the antenna cable. If you are not receiving satellites something is most likely wrong with the antenna or cable. Cable is easy to check. If the cable has been pinched in a door or something the inner conductor and outer shield may be grounding out.

Use a continuity checker and check from center pin to center pin on antenna cable. Should have continuity. Check outer part of cable connector to the other end outer part. Should have continuity. Check from the outer part to the middle pin. Should NOT have continuity. Make sure connectors are screwed in properly.

Make sure you are NOT IN A BUILDING! The tractor needs to be outside so it can see satellites up in the sky. If you are under a tin shed it ain't gonna work! This would seem rather obvious but to someone who has never used gps equipment I suppose it might not be thought of.

If you still have trouble after checking the above, if you have a neighbor or your Outback dealer near by, borrow their antenna for a few minutes and change out antennas. If it works then you know it is the antenna.
