I would stay away from using text books because they are not going to give you practical answers as quick as you'd like for them too. They are designed to teach and are often layed out in a systems approach. Besides, they can be very wordy in their descriptions.

If looking for a basic automotive / vehicle electrical how to guide you might try Barnes and Noble. I've bought some pretty good basic reference books their before and they have been very helpful. Those reference books are found under the Engineering and Science section. They also have Chilton books too in the Transportation section, they might have some on basic automotive electronics and wiring.
