Subject: You KS farmers might remember these guys...

Baldwin City, KS
When I was in highschool, I worked a couple of summers for a fairly large JD dealer that got escorted out of business a few years ago. This guy was a complete tight a$$. I tend to learn alot about what does and doesn't work from guys like this, since they will try anything to save money or to avoid paying for services that most people don't put to much thought into.
Anyway, this guy had a couple of JD 466 (I think) engines that had been made into gensets that powered the whole place most of the time (If $hit didn't fly apart). All waste oil from that shop was pumped underground out to a large tank which fueled these engines along with some diesel, but I don't think it was a whole lot of diesel. Everybody that worked there called it the nuke room. By the way, the exhaust ran through the shop and provided heat in the winter and hell in the summer.
It seems like the engines ran alot of hours without breaking down, but maybe not in the big picture, I was just there in the summer. I wouldn't do it to my fleet, but I wanted to pass the story along and see if some of you can remember the guys I'm talking about. It could start an entire new post. LOL
