| Corn in St. Clair / Madison County was planted in the April 10-25th window. It was very dry and some waited until we got some rain in mid-May to fisnish, but that is a small percentage. Both counties are going to see wide ranges of yields. I think in general we will see yields 10-30% below the previous 5 years avreage. On July 1 I would have told you that we had a 200+ bushel crop going, but with only 2.5" of rain and 80mph winds in July those thoughts are long gone. Regarding 51# test weight, that will improve. When you have 28% corn you will have low test weght. I do think test weghts will be down from the 59-63 we've seen the past few years. I'm more worried about damaged grain in this corn that is down and the potential for afflatoxin in those areas that were very dry. | |
