South Africa | We've done this for many years and many guys around here (south-western Cape, South Africa) still do it, although some are going no-till too, which seems to work well in some places and not so well in others. We're hoping to start sowing today or Monday, I'll put pics up here when I get back in 2 weeks' time. We use a light tillage implement to cover the seed and fertilizer (usually the soil is tilled beforehand) and the seed rate is about 130kg/hectare, which translates to about 115 lbs/acre. This varies greatly between soil types, however, but this is our average. For us, the difference in yield between drilling and spreading was not enough to justify switching to other implements, so we keep using the spreader and tillage tools that we have, since it works for us. The difference is minor in the area where we are.
