My ranching neighbor who I do custom seeding for is trying to make my life interesting. He wants to seed golden millet for swath grazing next winter. We don't seed millet around here so finding any kind of local info is very hard. Right now they are cleaning corrals out and spreading on to the 50 acre piece that is to get this seed. I don't know the tons/acre but each tandem spreader load is covering 1/3 acre. Here is why I am getting concerned. If there is that much manure on top, should he be doing something to work it in first. I seed with a JD 1890 so I know that I will not be moving much dirt and would end up placing the seed in manure as opposed to dirt. Even if we bring the disk out, will the ground be too toxic for the small millet seed this year? I wouldn't be worried about a larger seed like barley. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. |
