CUF 101 (California University developed alfalfa 20 years ago) is a standard for nondorment alfalfa in this country. It might be considered a Fall Dormancy 9 or 10, (FD 9. FD 10).
California will use it in their alfalfa variety testing as a comparison. This company sells a several interesting alfalfa varieties for irrigated desert climates. http://producerschoiceseed.com/

You can look at www.alfalfa.org for a Varieties Listing of most alfalfa varieties sold in the USA.

If you are thinking of growing alfalfa along the southern border of Turkey, not far from Iraq then a FD 8 and or FD 9 varieties may be a better choice. If disease and aphids are not a problem then maybe Moapa 69 may work. There are some Oklahoma Varieties, OK 49 and a few others that may also work. Check with Dr John Caddel [email protected] he may be of some help. He also will be able to translate to and from American units of measure and metric.
