Subject: Found the waterline leak

Eastern Ontario

After 4 days of digging and trying to find the line, we finally found the leak. There were a lot of good ideas in my earlier post and we were seriously considering pushing a smaller line throught it. But, you know how it is. Let's just dig over here before we go and get a new pipe. Maybe we'll find it. Yeah, after 4 holes we did. Gave up on saving the lawn and what else was beneath. We're gonna fix it up in the summer. At least I got my water back.

Problem we found was a leak at a coupler. For some reason one side of the coupler came all the way out of the pipe. We presume it was partially pulled out when they plowed it in 20 years ago and time took care of the rest. It was actually a plasic coupler with stainless steel clamps. Only one on each side though. Pipe was too short to put back together with just one coupler , so we put in another. 2 sets of clamps on each coupler this time. We also went and took note where these connections are, so next time they would be so hard to find. What threw us off is that there used to be an old building where the dozer had go around, and we thought it went in a straight line. We were off by 3 feet twice before finding the line.

Luckily the ground under the 3 feet of snow was not frozen at all. The weather turned a little milder and some melting took place with water pooling in places which also threw us off. Just about the worst conditions to find a leak. Glad it's over.
