southeastern ohio | You are low on freon. I am asuming that it is r-22. If you inside temp is around 75 deg or so, the low side should be around 70 psi. To get it correct, put a digital thermometer on the suction line ( big line coming out of unit. On your gauges there is a couple of scales around the inside of the psi scale probably for r12,r22 & r502 or r134. See where it is at,
ie. 70 psi =40 deg. The temp conversion on the gauge should be 10 deg lower then the reading on the thermometer. This is what they call 10 deg superheat. The higher the difference the more freon you need. At 55psi you are not that low maybe 1/2 or 1lb. Make sure the filter is clean and that the inside coil is not froze up. If it is frozen it could give you pressures like that. Just add a little at a time, wait 4-5 min then check temps again. Some units react slower or faster than others.
