We still use an IH 2000 D tandem with a 6-71 and an 18 ft. bed. The dripping oil helps keep the dust down on the driveway!!!!!!!!!!
Uncle Sam must have had a very good contract with Detroit in the "60's because most of the Army boats in Vietnam were powered by Detroits. I worked on a Q- boat with a pair of 6-110s and a Detroit 2 cylinder generator. The LCU's had three 6-71's for motive power, two rotated right and one rotated left, and a 2 cylinder generator set. Ear plugs were needed in the engine room that was only about 4 1/2 foot high under the deck. The tug I was on had two 4-71's for generators and a Fairbanks Morse engine for motive power.
