I would say that could have alot to do with it. The last couple months or so of preg. any extra a cow gets pretty much goes to the calf. I dont like to over feed during that period as it can cause problems. I bet your hay is pretty good too. I would save the gluten until after they get through calving and it would really help with the milk and rebreeding.
