Subject: RE: Need info on composting deads

Masonville, Iowa
I've been composting cleanings, litlle pigs, and sows for 10 years. I use sawdust from a local mill. We get the green sawdust, it has more moisture and some of the acids in it yet. Little pigs and cleanings will be gone in under a month, but those big ole sows take a while. Try to turn one of the three bays every month or so. Seems like you need to turn them every so often to get oxygen back in the pile. You don't want to just have eaten a pork roast when you get into a carcass that isn't gone yet when turning!!!.
