E.Central MN | Saw several environmental reports lately about the negative effects of mining these materials. It is stable in the ground, but when it is dug up and crushed, etc, then the tailings become a problem. They are very porous which allows water to percolate thru them and the result is leachate that can cause water pollution for fish, etc. More regulations, more enviromental activism means less operating mines which leads to less competition/higher prices. Fertilizer doesn't just appear out of thin air(unless you're talking snake oil). | |
